This Privacy Policy explains how Westitch ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile app and related services (the "Service").
Information We Collect
- Account information: username, profile details, and any information you choose to add.
- User content: photos, videos, captions, comments, likes, messages, and other content you create or upload.
- Device and usage data: app activity and usage analytics events (such as screens viewed and actions taken, associated with your account), device identifiers, and basic diagnostics (for performance and security).
- Network information: IP address and related request metadata (for security, abuse prevention, and reliability).
How We Use Information
- Provide and operate the Service (feeds, posting, messaging, invites).
- Upload and display your content, and deliver it to people you share with.
- Maintain safety, prevent abuse, and enforce our rules.
- Improve features and fix bugs (including analytics and crash reporting where enabled).
- Communicate with you about the Service (important updates, support).
Camera and Media Library
- The camera is used only when you actively choose to take a photo inside the app.
- We may request access to photos and videos on your device so you can select existing media to upload.
- We do not scan your entire photo library; the app only accesses the specific items you select.
- Captured or selected media may be uploaded to our servers so it can be shown to others according to your sharing choices.
- Media may include metadata your device provides (for example, the time the photo was taken). You can remove metadata before uploading using your device tools.
Android Permissions
Depending on your Android version and what you choose to do in the app, Westitch may request:
- Camera (
android.permission.CAMERA) to take photos for posts/messages/profile content. - Photos and videos (for example
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES,READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, or older storage permissions on older Android versions) to select existing media to upload.
You can change or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. The app will still work, but features that require these permissions (like taking or selecting media) may be unavailable.
Sharing and Disclosure
We may share information:
- With other users when you post or message content (based on your privacy/sharing settings).
- With service providers that help us run the Service (for example: hosting, storage, analytics, crash reporting).
- For legal reasons if required to comply with law, protect users, or prevent fraud/abuse.
- With your consent when you choose to connect third-party services (if any).
Third-Party Services
We may use third-party infrastructure and services (for example, cloud hosting and Firebase/Google services) to provide authentication, notifications, file storage, analytics, and reliability. We use PostHog (hosted in the European Union) for product analytics and Sentry for crash and error reporting. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies.
Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business and legal purposes. If you delete content or your account, we take steps to delete or de-identify associated data, except where we must keep it for legal or security reasons.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Westitch is not intended for children under the age required by local law to consent to data processing. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Your Choices
- You can choose not to grant camera permission, but you will not be able to capture photos within the app.
- You can remove permissions in your device settings at any time.
- You can request account deletion by contacting us (see below) if the in-app option is not available, or use this page.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and may provide additional notice in the app for material changes.
